Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Birth Doula?
Birth doulas are meant to provide couples with the support they need to ensure a safe and gratifying birth experience.
A birth doula is someone that physically and emotionally supports a woman during labor and birth. She encourages the birth partner to be as involved as the mother would like him or her to be and as much or as little as the partner would like to be. As a doula, I am there to give couples the information they need to make informed decisions about the kind of care they would like during the labor and delivery and the kind of care that they would like directly after birth. I also give them information on the kind of care available to their newborn and their rights as parents to make whatever decisions they feel is right for their family.
The birth partner is the main support person for the mother, and I will do everything I can help him or her support the mother to the best of their ability.
I am also there to provide the mother with methods that will help ease the discomfort she may be feeling during labor. I can also give the partner advice on ways to comfort the mom such as massage and pressure points that can be done throughout labor.
As your birth doula, I can also provide you with information about services offered in your area such as postpartum support and lactation consultants. As well as pediatricians and mommy and me groups or daddy and me groups.
